The National Endowment for the Arts awarded Dr. Whitaker a 1997 National Heritage Fellowship in the Traditional Art's. Both this Whitaker book and his book "My Life as an Artist Blacksmith" plus the bonus of the translation of Julius Schramm's book ALL FOR THE SALE PRICE OF $60.
