Cranes & Excavators at Work Volume 2, DVD Dragline The Other End of a Rope

No Longer Available

The Other End of a Rope

Of all the excavating machines beloved by construction equipment enthusiasts, the dragline holds most fascination. Unlike other digging machines of cable winding design or the modern hydraulic excavator, the digging bucket is not fixed rigidly to the main machine. It is only tethered loosely by rope and chain and depends on the skill of the operator to guide it through the cut, lift the spoil to it's dumping position and then return to it's starting point in one smooth operation. To watch a large dragline going through a digging cycle with the majesty and grace of a big machine is to see poetry in motion, This DVD programme looks at several draglines at work in their everyday environment and features the Ruston Bucyrus 71-RB, Ransomes Rapier 150W Walking dragline, The NCK 605 and the largest Walking Dragline in Western Europe - The P&H 757 more familiarly known as 'The Ace Of Spades'. You will see exciting footage of these wonderful machine at work from various vantage points as we also take you on board to inspect the cathedral like interior of the P&H, give you a drivers eye view of it's 65 cubic yard bucket and also take a closer look at the machinery of the other draglines to show you how they work. Once again my grateful thanks are due to all the companies that assisted in the making of this DVD, including of course the dragline drivers themselves. Geoff Lewis.
