Oliver Tractors by Sherry Schaefer & Jeff Hackett

No Longer Available

In 1894, two engineering students met at the University of Wisconsin and in time, change the tractor industry forever. Charles Hart and Charles Parr formed the Hart-Parr Company in 1897 and created the engine that powered the first successful, commercially produced tractor. Financial difficulties brought Oliver Chilled Plow Works into the picture, and that's when the enterprise really took wing.

Oliver tractors were innovative and served as an inspiration to other tractor companies. Oliver was the first to offer a practical diesel engine, as well as the first independent power take-off. Even after the White Company purchased Oliver, the legend lived on.

Oliver Tractors takes you through the history of Oliver's tractors from the early, formative days of Hart-Parr to the last 2255 that rolled off the production line in 1976 as an Oliver. Acquisitions, mergers, name changes, new tractor models, as well as a chapter on crawlers, are all explained in detail by author Sherry Schaefer. The text is accompanied by 80 of Jeff Hackett's spectacular colour photographs. If you are looking for a quick introduction to Oliver, this colourful book is it!
