First published in 1940, reprinted in 1994. This book describes the principles of operation of hot air engines, and specifically describes the following makes: Robinson; Rider Engine; Bailey; Buckett; Benier; Heinrici.
There are plans for building a small 30 mm bore inverted vertical Heinrici type hot air engine. Also there are clear diagrams of other types of hot air engines, even one using a rotary displacer. Another chapter covers pistons and gland packing, some ideas such as using a rolling rubber ring to seal the piston, and the use of diaphragms and bellows instead of pistons is discussed.
