This is the story of the man Frank Bottrill and the development of his patented dreadnaught wheel and it's ultimate application on Big Lizzie.
Frank Bottrill wanted to develop a better wheel to support the heavy traction engines of his day on the soft desert sands of the interior of the Australia.
The book starts off with some of the applications on traction engines and McDonald tractors, but most of the books is about the large haulage tractor Big Lizzie. This would have to be one of the largest tractors ever made, weighing 45 ton, 35 feet long, 11 feet wide. Fitted with a 60 hp Blackstone crude oil engine.
