A detailed review of the experiments by the Southern Railway's Chief Mechanical Engineer, O.V.S.Bulleid, which led to the production at Inchicore Works in Ireland of the ill fated turf burning locomotive. The Leader project on Britain's Southern Region is considered as are earlier trials with Irish locomotives burning turf.
