No Longer Available

This video takes a look at archive film of Bolinder Munktell from the time the company is purchased by Volvo to be renamed BM Volvo.

One of its first products under the new name is a Combine Harvester. This video also includes footage of the latest products from Volvo Construction Equipment working on a wide variety of jobs in the UK. You also have the opportunity to look at the superb Munktell museum in Eskilstuna, which is full of the history of this amazing company.

Sweden is a country covered in trees and tree harvesters were part of the company products. Archive footage of experimental harvesters and forwarders show how functional these early machines were. Modern excavators tree harvesting in Scotland and Keilder forest highlight just how advanced forestry equipment has become.

The Volvo Snow Cat as it is generally known has been in military service for many years and some models are now used for work on country estates. But the archive film shows just how remarkable these machines are operating in the conditions they were designed for.

The motor grader is a most useful machine on construction sites and an essential one in maintaining roads in remote parts of the world. Champion where in the forefront of grader technology, now this company is a part of Volvo C E and the Volvo grader manufactured in Canada is a market leader. But we must not forget that Munktell also produced a grader in 1924 and this archive footage shows the very first Munktell grader as well as the very successful BM Volvo models.

BM Volvo wheeled loaders made their name in the timber industry and the quick hitch system gave the machines an advantage over their rivals with the ability to change attachments fast on site, a prerequisite in any timber yard.

The articulated hauler has changed the face of off road haulage and Volvo ADT's are world leaders. It all started in 1966 when Bolinder Munktell introduced the first ADT. But the BM Volvo 860 and 861 models were to be the machines that started the ADT on the road to success. They were the seed corn to a new industry as this archive film shows.

This is just a brief look at a company that has grown from a small workshop in Eskilstuna to be a major force in the global construction, mining, quarrying and forest industries.
