This is the second book in the series which takes a fresh look at some of the best known names in agricultural engineering in the last century. It covers the history of Fordson and Ford tractors from the first prototypes built before the Great War, up to the 1960's.
The story is told in an entertaining and informative way be the leading tractor expert, Allan T. Condie, who has been researching the subject over the last quarter of a century.
It is difficult to underestimate the contribution to the mechanisation of agriculture made by Henry Ford and his company. For example, nearly three quarters of a million of the original Fordson Model F were built by the time production ended in 1928.
The book follows development on both sides of the Atlantic and charts and illustrates the tractors produced. Henry Ford's business relationship with that other giant in the field, Harry Ferguson, is also explored.
The tractors themselves, Standard Fordsons, Ford Fergusons, Majors, Dextas, Jubilees and the rest, are portrayed in a mixture of archive photographs and illustrations and contemporary colour images of lovingly preserved machines.
