Presented by Grahame Miller, Featuring the Vickers VR180, Michigan 110HT, Lima 2400B.
This series of videos will look at the changes that have taken place in the development of many types of construction, forestry and agricultural equipment of the last 60 years. Film, photographs and brochures from the Grahame Miller archive form the basis of the video. But what is unique about this series is the producers ability to find people to interview who were involved with the equipment when it was new, together with the original equipment.
In volume one the viewer is given a guided tour of a Vickers Vigor from the Fred Knight collection by Bill Ingram. He was one of the first service engineers to work on the VR180 in the 1950's, followed by the first promotional film produced by Jack Olding the world wide dealer. Operating the Michigan 110HT Elevating Scraper is explained by Grahame Miller who was a demonstrator, using Bedwell Park's machine that is still working in their chalk pit and it's sales points are recalled by Stan Burge who was responsible for selling the first unit in the UK. The Revolution in Earthmoving film follows showing the Michigan 110HT on some tough applications in the 1970's.
Lima 2400 was the King of coal in the 1940's and 50's. One is still working over 40 years after being imported by the NCB, for colliers Industrial Waste and Derek Lister who served his engineering apprenticeship on them recalls the heydeys of Opencast coal mining. He progressed to sales director for SLD Olding selling Lima's and today sells Demag excavators.
Miller's Classic Plant volume one will give you an insight to the real world of earthmoving and contracting guided by experts who were there. As the series unfolds you will see a unique collection of films and hear some interesting stories from equipment owners, engineers, operators, salesmen and Grahame Miller who has spent all his working life in the construction industry.
