Allis-Chalmers Farm Equipment 1914-1985 by Norm Swinford

No Longer Available

Edward P. Allis was a shrewd businessman when he purchased the Reliance Works in 1861 for $22.72. By 1865, sales reached $100,000 and Edward P. Allis & Company had become a viable and thriving company. It produced "heavy machinery" equipment (steam engines, turbines, flour mills, etc.) which mechanized a growing America.

The formation of Allis-Chalmers in 1901 expanded the already lengthy line of equipment, but it wasn't until the early 1910's that tractors became a priority. General Otto Falk, A-C president from 1913-1932, revolutionized the product line by fostering the Model 10-18 tractor - the first of a series which would eventually become a full line of equipment for the farm.

Author Norm Swinford combines his love of Allis Chalmers products with over 30 years experience with the company to produce this complete history of Allis Chalmers farm equipment.

Uncover the interesting behind the scenes stories surrounding the tractor line. Discover why the tractor colour changed from dark green to Persian orange; explore the fascinating prototypes and experimental machines that were never produced but give insight into the innovative capability of company engineers; as well as many more intriguing stories.

Allis Chalmers Farm Equipment 1914-1985 provides a rare inside look at one of America's most historic farm companies. With almost 900 photos (over 250 in colour), more than 100 tables, and very insightful text, it is the essential A-C source book. If you love A-C tractors or just like farm machinery nostalgia, this book will surely provide enjoyment to you.
