How to Run Three Phase Motors on Single Phase Power

Use one of three methods in use since the turn of the century. Run lathes, drill presses and other machine tool motors by the capacitor method. The autoformer method is described, this is useful for motors running under continuous full load. Lastly, you can run a whole work shop from a single, easy-to-build dynamic converter. The methods are good to at least 150 hp. Low starting currents and excellent power factor are possible. Basic three-phase and induction motor theory is included.
