John Deere Tractors & Equipment Vol. 1 1837-59

No Longer Available

This book presents a remarkably complete product history, from the rural blacksmith's first steel plough to the end of the 2-cylinder tractor era. This book is written by and for tractor buffs. The principle author, Don Macmillan says his "love affair" with green machines began in 1940, when he was working on a farm in Gloucestershire, England, and encountered a brand new "AR" tractor. Now it continues in this enthusiastic outpouring of facts, figures, photos, and anecdotes collected and savoured over a 40-plus-year association with the John Deere organization. This story of "The Long Green Line" is told in two sections. The first traces lineage, where the machines were derived from, in five chapters of "company chronology". The second, a large pictorial section, shows development in each category, such as tractors, combines, tillage equipment, etc., with a collector's attention to detail. Never before has the John Deere product line been covered so thoroughly. The tractor buff, restorer, and those who simply enjoy reliving the old times will appreciate the easy-to-read narrative set forth in a fresh, pictorial format. This book has over 970 photos, drawings, and illustrations (many in full colour).
